„27, 95$. Twenty-seven ninety five?! Really? That used to be like three weeks of groceries, man!“
On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog
And so, the authors write, „humans will inevitably turn to the increasingly intelligent digital technologies that created the abundance in the first place for help in sorting it out.“ That is the challenge for a new generation of media consumers.
We cannot sift through mountains of media options the same way we remembered which radio station played our favorite tunes or which television station broadcast on which channel. In fact, we are going to have to rely on one another to discover, filter, and share — with ingenious technologies helping us out.
But the news doesn’t have to come to us only through our friends and family — or anyone in particular. It will take all kinds of routes to us — through one social network, onto to another, and into a blog we read for reasons totally unrelated to the news.

From each house on the street,
the blue light of the news.
Someone’s dog whirps three times
and scuffs the leaves.
It’s quiet, a school night.

The news for today
is tape recordings

for today is weather.

„Something increasingly popular in the last few years: the representation of books through dispassionately photographed spreads, often with the surface on which they rest peeking around the edges. An almost clinical approach to a historical overview, one used by this feature itself. A little precious, maybe, but a natural reaction to what has happened to images in the last 15 years: a conscious choice not to use scanners and a striving to represent the book as object, rather than one more brief stop for images on their way from one place to another. It does make it hard to read the text and enjoy the pictures, which is an interesting wrinkle, until it gets over-used. This is from “The Purple Anthology,” 2008.“ (…)

Gaza City zookeepers have found a creative way of drawing crowds to their dilapidated zoo – by painting their donkeys. The Marah Land Zoo’s only two zebras died of hunger earlier this year when they were neglected during the Israel-Hamas war. The popular animals were too expensive to replace, so the keepers decided to design a pair of donkeys with black and white patterns instead. Ahmad Barghouti says a professional painter used French-manufactured hair coloring to make the donkeys look like zebras.
